Just learning about milling equipment? Small milling machines are used for cold-planing of small areas, around manhole covers, along concrete walkway transitions, driveway transitions to roadways, bridge deck transitions and for the general rehabilitation of alligator cracked areas. Generally used for milling asphalt, the machines are designed to either windrow millings material or to conveyor feed the material to a dump truck. Cold planing machines are generally either self-propelled with an operator station above the cutting/milling head, or they attach to a skidsteer and/or bucket loader, such as with the Asphalt Zipper. Large tracked cold planing machines can cut as wide as 150" and 14" in dept and are used on roadways, highways and parking lot milling projects. These high-performance cold milling machines are generally designed for high productivity cold planing to get the job done fast and feature high speed conveyors and specialized tracking features.
